The 26-year armed conflict in Sri Lanka compelled numerous Eelam Tamils to seek refuge in foreign nations, notably in Canada. Among them is Rathika Sitsabaiesan, a former Canadian Member of Parliament, who fled the armed conflict in Sri Lanka with her Tamil family as a five-year-old child. The anguish and tales of the conflict drove Rathika's advocacy. In 2013, her visit to Sri Lanka rekindled her own traumatic memories, as she was surveilled by the very government accountable for widespread suffering.

The Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival (TPAFF) celebrates its 2nd season with more FREE community programming!


TPAFF hosts documentary films from Toronto’s Black Film world, whose films center around African Liberation, Spirituality, Black displacement and exploitation. TPAFF centers and anchors Toront- based Black filmmakers and offers another exciting platform for black filmmakers to connect with a captivating Toronto-based audience. TPAFF helps to continue to celebrate the accomplishments of Black people through film during the month of Emancipation.


 

Our 2nd season is about HER stories are either told by “HER” or about “HER”. Stories that celebrate the Black woman and her place in the world of beauty, sports, civil actions and her social relationships. Thank you to our sponsors the City of Toronto, Live Arts Mentor, Toronto Arts Council and LUSH Handmade Cosmetics. We also give a HUGE shout out to our community partner Regent Park Film Festival for being our coach and life line. The NIA Centre for the Arts, Canada’s first Black performing arts centre is our venue for this exciting weekend. The Nia Centre is a space built with purpose and dedicated to Black artists and young creatives, and we are pleased to share this space with our community!  We tell the stories...NO TALES!
